How much does it cost to deregister a car in the UAE?

When people ask what deregistering a car costs, they usually mean the government fee. In practice that's the smallest number on the bill. Here's the full picture of what you'll actually pay to take a car off your name in the UAE.

The five costs that make up the total

1. The service fee

This is the authority's charge to process the cancellation. It's paid when you apply through the official channel. Some emirates charge different amounts for different services, such as cancellation for scrap versus export.

2. Fines on the vehicle file

3. Late registration fines

If the Mulkiya expired a while ago, late renewal fines may have built up. You generally don't need to renew just to cancel, but existing fines still need paying.

4. The loan

5. Towing

A deregistered car can't be driven on public roads, and a broken car can't be driven at all. If you're arranging the scrapping yourself, factor in a flatbed or winch truck.
